Wedding season has passed which means we’re in the thick of engagement season! Once couples nail down a photographer, the next question becomes “Where should we take our engagement photos?” We’re here to help you answer this question as we go through what we believe to be the best beach engagement session locations in San Luis Obispo County!
1. Morro Bay Dunes
With its massive, historic rock and iconic smokestacks, Morro Bay is one of the Central Coast’s most popular destination. Morro Bay’s picturesque strand is a surfer’s paradise and allows not only your dog companions, but your horses too! This location makes it so easy to customize your engagement session, catching some surf with your loved one, riding horses, or simply frolicking through the dunes.
While we all love golden sunset photos, don’t fret if the clouds roll in. Morro Bay is known to get cloudy and it can make for a romantic and intimate engagement session. Morro Bay just catches light unlike any other beach in San Luis Obispo County!

2. Montana de Oro
Keeping with the coastal theme, we’re sailing this ship over to Montana de Oro State Park. A Central Coast locals spot! MDO is located near the town of Los Osos, just outside of San Luis Obispo. MDO features a wide variety of different landscapes from a tall eucalyptus forest (home to the Monarch butterfly) to cliff sides over looking the coast to the beach itself, to name a few.
3. Oceano Dunes
It’s basically the Sahara Desert! Close to Pismo Beach, you’ll find the Oceano Dunes SVRA, one of the most epic places to visit in SLO County! With miles and miles of sand, this is the only beach in San Luis Obispo County where you can drive your car onto the beach. If your engagement session wouldn’t be complete without your Jeep, this is the spot! We also know of a wonderful walk-in location for those without an off-road vehicle.
4. North Pismo Beach
If we haven’t made our point yet, our coastline is pretty gorgeous here! From staggering cliffs to massive sand dunes, all of SLO County’s beaches are pretty unique. You can get big rock formations like these ones near Pismo Beach, or you can get classic, white California sand below a pier in Avila Beach. If you’re all about capturing that beachy vibe, we suggest heading to one in San Luis Obispo for your engagement session!
